  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
VYOS in my experience is very stable and upgrade process is also very easy. I used it in my HomeLab and it had many features like IPSEC, BGP even some new routing protocol like babel. Containerization in another thing i like the most where you can download Docker images so integration was easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
now that LTS version you cannot build it yourself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
VyOS is very fast VPN with services like Wireguard and IPSEC with ease of use like juniper .

Long time users since Vyatta 6.1 and can't think of anything better for our needs

What do you like best about the product?
We find VyOS very easy to use, the CLI is very intuitive and particularly familiar if you come from a Juniper background. It's very easy to get installed and you can build up configuration slowly without tying yourself up in knots, it'll give you useful messages when things aren't working. Although we don't have a support contract ourselves, we've found the VyOS developers and staff very supportive and welcoming. We've used VyOS ever it first started as a project (moving away from Vyatta 6.1), so we've been using either Vytatta or VyOS since 2010 and have never stopped. The fact that it has a built in PPPoE server makes it very easy to allow other routers (e.g. OpenWRT) to sit behind VyOS and get a public IP.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't really think of any. Obviously from time to time you might wish it had an extra feature or two, but nothing that you can't suggest or contribute yourself... as it's an open source project.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Function Office leverages VyOS to enhance the IT infrastructure of our Seaquake project, enabling us to provide no-cost IT services to other non-profits, community groups, and charities who receive help through our IT Outreach programme.

What do you dislike about the product?
We have so far not experienced any downsides.

Great networking product for versatility.

What do you like best about the product?
I love the ability to install VyOS in the virtual environment and on standard physical computers to help resolve complicated network scenarios. I also like utilizing the Linux back end to extend the capability beyond the typical router setup.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main downside of VyOS is currently the lack of a GUI. For me personally, working in the command line my entire IT career, it is not an issue, but some of my colleagues would prefer a GUI to help them with configurations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I utilize VYOS for site-to-site VPN, virtual routers in our virtual infrastructure, and at our many sites as a network diagnostic tool, including speed tests and multicasting testing.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
BGP v4 connectivity to our ASN without the associated cost of specialized hardware.

Solid routing platform for an ISP

What do you like best about the product?
It's open source. The fact that it can be installed on cheap, readily available hardware. In our case, coming from EdgeOS, the config structure was very familiar. It is very stable. We have been using it increasingly for ~2 years now on an eBGP network and have zero issues. 18 of our 50+ sites have transitioned to VyOS and until just last week the only issue we have had was a DHCP server needed to be restarted one time. Otherwise as long as the power is up, they are operating. The issue discovered last week may well be with EdgeOS but we're having trouble getting a BFD session to establish from VyOS to EdgeOS.
What do you dislike about the product?
I honestly can't think of anything I dislike. It would be tiny nitpicking things if I mentioned anything but at the moment my mind is blank on that level of issue even.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Originally we had a WISP network built with EdgeOS running OSPF. After reaching around 50 routed sites OSPF became unstable in EdgeOS and we began looking to VyOS to replace it. At the same time as we began that replacement we also began transitioning our network to a full eBGP network. The combination of events solved the OSPF issue, but there were a handful of EdgeOS routers on our network that were still causing issues. Power cycles and/or lock ups randomly. We have been rebuilding those troublesome sites with all new equipment, and swapping EdgeOS with VyOS based routers and so far the problems are gone. ( It could just be a grounding issue with the EdgeOS based install and the rebuild solves that )

Also, when we first began to deploy VyOS, EdgeOS stock was non-existent due to the post-pandemic stock shortage. So being able to drop VyOS on almost any hardware was an extremey nice benefit. At some bigger sites we have it virtulized and that is working well also.
